Who Gets to Be Well?!
Guest: Dr. Wiley D. Wilson
This episode asks a difficult but necessary question: What does it say about the health of Black America when Black women still have to fight to be heard, believed and properly cared for? Black women frequently carry enormous responsibility within our families, workplaces, churches and communities. They are mothers. Wives. Daughters. Caregivers. Professionals. Leaders. Teachers. Entrepreneurs. Faith leaders. Community builders. And often the people taking care of everyone else. But who takes care of them? This conversation with Dr. Wylin Wilson examines what happens when healthcare systems, institutions, churches and sometimes even our own communities fail to fully see and hear Black women. And ultimately, this isn't simply a women's issue. It is a Black community issue. Because when Black women suffer, Black families suffer. When Black mothers are not protected, children suffer. When Black women's pain is dismissed, communities lose trust. And when Black women cannot flourish, Black America cannot fully flourish either.
